New Year, New Venture: AONeuro to Become Global Neuro
AONeuro is excited to announce that, on January 1, 2018, AONeuro will transition out of the AO Foundation, and create a new, independent organization to focus on neuro care: Global Neuro.
What started out as an initiative by the AO Foundation—to expand its activities into the area of cranial neurosurgery—AONeuro has now grown into a fully established educational platform. This shift to an independent entity will enable Global Neuro to further grow its commitment to improving patient care. The new organization will focus on expanding its neurosurgical capacity building activities through education, quality improvement, research, and technical assistance on a global scale. The organization will also explore opportunities to collaborate on multiple fronts to advance treatment.
The AO Foundation will support the transition phase from AONeuro to Global Neuro in its new form. The new organization will be led by a group of key opinion leaders in this field, including Andres Rubiano, Anthony Figaji, Christian Matula, Geoffrey Manley, Ross Bullock, Shelly Timmons, Stephen Lewis, Wai Poon, and Paul Manson.
Developing a new context for neurosurgery
“Global Neuro will enable us to connect with multiple sponsors and be involved in a greater range of opportunities, as we fulfill our mission to improve patient care,” shares Paul Manson.
“International collaborations and precise teamwork between surgeons, clinicians, and researchers will support quality improvement and the development of health policies for implementation in low, middle, and high-income settings,” shares Andres Rubiano, Global Neuro’s Founding Member.
“Interdisciplinary cooperation, less invasive approaches, as well as sophisticated microsurgical reconstructive techniques have revolutionized the complex field of surgery we are dealing with. Collaboration will help us to further these advances, which have made excellent outcomes possible,” offers Christian Matula.
